What do you like most about caves? How they were formed? The things that live in them? What makes caves so cool? I guess my favorite thing is how they are made. The conditions have to be just right for them to form. The Bill Nye video we watched today was great. It really summed up what we have been talking about with caves. I know a lot of you liked the music video at the end. I liked the bloopers!
Ok, I know I am behind, but did you see that the volcano we were following during our volcano unit, Mt. Redoubt in Alaska, finally erupted earlier this week? Pretty cool stuff! Check out the website on the right and see what it is doing now.
So now that you know the 5 types of mechanical weathering, have you seen one of the 5 that is most unusual? My favorite is the pot hole next to the music room that if you ride a bus home, your bus has probably hit it. It is huge! How was it formed? Tell me your story. Be ready for the test Friday!!!
I just found this today. http://www.youngscientistchallenge.com/
How cool would it be to enter and win this contest. For those of you that can’t get enough science each day, Mrs. Brooks and I would be happy to help you with this contest. Let’s do this!!!
Check this out! This is a live webcam deep in an African Reservation! Really cool! If you go to the website www.wildearth.tv you can see more of this, but close up videos of animals the camera saw that day! Awesome!
Ok, quick, for 3 points extra credit, write down what AC Helms stands for and hand it to me with your name on the paper. Easy huh?
How cool is this! A volcano in Alaska is getting ready to erupt! Follow this link to the Observatory to check out the latest information. Did I read correctly that the last time this volcano erupted, the eruption lasted for almost five months! Amazing! Also, if you go the earthquakes in the last 7 days website, you will see that the rumblings of Mt. Redoubt is causing some minor earthquakes in the area. Tell me what you think! By the way, how cool is it to be a geologist?!!!!
Ok, obviously, the first thing I’m gonna ask is “has anyone visited a volcano?” Personally, I have not, but my parents did and brought back some cool looking rocks. I want to know, if you have been to a volcano, tell me which one, and see if you can tell me what type of volcano it was! Don’t forget the coloring pages are due on Friday! Thanks!
